Chapter_196
Ludwik stormed down the hallway, the weight of Elaine’s words pressing down on him. He couldn’t shake the feeling that something was wrong. Every instinct told him to dig deeper, to push harder, but the more he confronted her, the more slippery she became. She had an answer for everything, a well-rehearsed script that almost seemed too perfect.
As he reached the end of the hallway, he stopped, taking a deep breath to try and center himself. The doubt gnawed at him, but he refused to let it control him. He couldn’t afford to let her manipulate him any longer.
But what if she was telling the truth? The scar, the donation… it seemed plausible. Yet, his gut twisted, telling him something was off. Why had she been so insistent on keeping the truth hidden? Why the elaborate web of lies? And why did she seem so desperate to shift the focus onto Whitney?
His mind raced back to the moments he’d spent with Whitney—the way she had handled every situation with quiet strength, how she had never hidden her intentions, even when they had clashed. He had no doubt that there was more to the story, but he couldn’t deny that the trust he had in her felt far stronger than anything Elaine could offer.
A part of him hated that he had to question everything.
Just as he was about to walk away, he noticed a shadow at the end of the hallway. It was Felix, his face as unreadable as always.
“Mr. Lippert,” Felix said, his voice low and calm. “It seems there’s more to the situation with Elaine than we initially thought. I’ve been looking into some of the details surrounding her transplant. There’s a discrepancy with the medical records.”
Ludwik’s heart skipped a beat. “What do you mean?” His voice was sharp, betraying his urgency.
Felix stepped closer, lowering his voice even further. “The records show that while she was registered for the kidney donation, they were never fully processed. It’s as if someone intervened to delay or cover up parts of the procedure.”
Ludwik’s brow furrowed. “Who would do that? And why?”
Felix shook his head. “I’m still investigating, but there’s a pattern of manipulation. If we dig deeper, we might uncover who’s been helping her cover this up.”
Ludwik clenched his fists, his mind a whirlwind of possibilities. “She’s been lying to me the entire time,” he murmured under his breath.
Felix nodded. “It’s likely she’s been keeping secrets from you all along, not just about the kidney, but about much more.”
Ludwik’s jaw tightened, his resolve hardening. “Then we’ll uncover every last one of her lies.” His eyes narrowed, filled with determination. “Do whatever it takes, Felix. I want the truth, no matter how ugly it is.”
Felix gave a small, respectful nod. “Understood, sir.”
With that, Ludwik turned back toward the study, his mind racing with the gravity of what had just been revealed. Elaine had already proven she was capable of deceit, but now, it was clear she was far more dangerous than he had ever imagined. The web she had spun was far from over, and if he wasn’t careful, it could destroy everything.
As he entered his study, his thoughts drifted back to Whitney. Was it possible that she knew the truth all along? Was she somehow connected to this? He couldn’t ignore the nagging feeling that everything was tied together in ways he couldn’t yet understand.
But one thing was clear now: the storm had only just begun, and the truth was about to come crashing down, whether he was ready for it or not.
