Chapter_202
Tyson led Sienna and Nathan into a private room. The atmosphere was thick with tension, eerie and suffocating.
Yvette lounged in a chair, her legs casually draped over the edge of the table, a stark contrast to the polished mahogany beneath them. Her gaze was focused on her phone screen, playing Super Mario with an almost bored expression. Her old canvas shoes, worn from years of use, clashed with the opulence of the room. Her posture—relaxed, confident, almost mocking—was one only a boss could pull off.
Across from her, Damian sipped his coffee, his fingers tracing the smooth contours of a black gun, occasionally glancing at Yvette as if lost in thought. The sight of the two of them together—one carefree, the other calculating—struck an odd note. The scene seemed almost out of place.
As soon as Sienna stepped inside, she immediately made her way to Yvette, seeking the familiar comfort of her presence.
“Yve. I’m here,” Sienna said, her voice a mix of relief and tension.
Yvette put away her phone, her hand resting lightly on the armrest of her chair as she gestured for Sienna to sit beside her. “Have a seat,” Yvette’s voice was cool, unbothered.
Sienna sat down obediently, glancing across the room at Damian. She had already pieced together who he must be—the grandfather Nathan had mentioned. His facial features mirrored Nathan’s, but they were hardened with age and experience.
Nathan took in Yvette’s laid-back posture, his frown deepening. Only Yvette would dare to be so bold in front of Grandpa, he thought. Anyone else would probably have been dragged out of here by now.
He approached Damian, bowing his head respectfully. “Grandpa,” Nathan greeted, his voice formal but lacking genuine warmth.
Damian lifted his eyelids to glance at him, his gaze sharp, as if weighing Nathan in a single look. Mediocrity was Nathan’s defining trait, which was why Damian had entrusted the Goodman family’s public business to him and given Braydon control over their darker dealings.
“Sit,” Damian commanded.
Nathan nodded, sitting beside him, directly facing Sienna. He couldn’t take his eyes off her, his gaze filled with something that bordered on obsession. The intensity of his stare made Sienna’s skin crawl. How did I ever get involved with him? she thought, her stomach turning.
Damian, sensing the discomfort in the room, looked at Sienna with a predator’s gaze. His presence was heavy, suffocating, the kind of weight only a former king of the underground world could command. He was using his usual tactic—overpowering with his gaze in an attempt to dominate the situation.
As expected, Sienna flinched under his stare, instinctively moving closer to Yvette. How could a young woman like her stand up to someone like Damian Goodman?
Yvette lifted her eyes just slightly, her gaze sharp and frosty. Her voice, low and cold, cut through the tension. “Who do you think you’re scaring? Just get to the point.”
Nathan’s face drained of color. I’ve seen this look before… He remembered the gunshot she’d fired earlier and quickly shut his mouth. He didn’t dare say another word, the sharpness of her presence too much for him to ignore.
Damian smiled softly, but the warmth didn’t reach his eyes. He turned to Sienna, his gaze assessing her belly.
“Hello, you must be Sienna. I’m Damian Goodman, Nathan’s grandfather. I’ve heard about your relationship with Nathan, and that you’re expecting a child. Here’s the deal. I’ll personally cancel Nathan’s previous engagement. You two can pick a good day for the wedding. Rest assured, all formalities will be in place. The dowry will be 300 million dollars, and you’ll be able to choose ten properties from our worldwide portfolio. I know you’re a fashion designer at Vibe. The company’s doing well, but as your pregnancy progresses, you might find it hard to continue working. Once the baby is born, you’re free to decide about your career. The Goodman family won’t interfere.”
Damian’s offer was grand—more than most women could dream of. He was confident that no one could resist these terms. His gaze flicked between Sienna and Yvette, testing the waters. He had added some of these conditions on Yvette’s behalf, knowing that Sienna wasn’t exactly the kind of woman to be swayed easily by wealth alone.
Nathan seized the moment. Seeing his grandfather’s look, he spoke up quickly. “Sienna, what Grandpa says is exactly what I’ve been thinking. If you agree to marry me, I promise I’ll take care of you. And as for the people you mentioned, I’ll sever all ties with them. Do you really want our child to grow up without a father? Can you bear the thought of the child being looked down upon by others?”
Nathan and Damian exchanged a quick, triumphant glance, convinced they had won her over.
Yvette, still reclining in her chair, her expression serene but cold, lazily glanced at both men. Then she turned to Sienna and asked, her voice a low, almost husky whisper, “What do you think?”
Sienna, her fingers nervously fidgeting, took a deep breath. She lifted her head, her expression now one of clear resolve. “No,” she said firmly, her voice unwavering. “I refuse. I won’t be with Nathan. Why don’t we just end things peacefully? We could have simply broken up and moved on.”
She paused, her gaze hardening as she turned to Nathan. “And about Linda—let’s not forget, when we were together, you slept with her more than once, didn’t you? Thinking back on it now makes me sick. You act like a devoted boyfriend while you can’t control yourself. How do you find that amusing?”
Sienna turned her attention to Damian, her voice cool and dismissive. “As for your money and property—thank you, but I don’t need them. I can achieve everything I want on my own. Why should I rely on your charity? Those things are for someone else—someone who’ll actually want them. But it won’t be me.”
Damian’s expression darkened further. He hadn’t expected Sienna to be so indifferent, so blunt in her rejection. His carefully laid plans had been dismissed without a second thought.
Nathan, caught off guard by her defiance, panicked. “Sienna, about Linda, honestly, it was just a few times. She came onto me, but I swear, it won’t happen again. I’ll fire her as soon as I get back.” His voice was desperate now.
Damian, who was used to ruthless negotiations, wasn’t fazed by Nathan’s panic. His patience, however, was rooted in his desire to keep things civil for Yvette’s sake. Otherwise, a woman like Sienna wouldn’t have been worth the time and effort.
Still considering Yvette’s presence, Damian said in a gentler tone, “Ms. Sterling, men have flings. It’s normal. As long as he comes home and cares for you, that’s enough. No man loves only one woman forever. Don’t be too naïve about this. Every wealthy family operates like this to some extent. Don’t fuss over every little thing. Otherwise, who knows when you’ll ever get married.”
Sienna’s anger flared. So this is how they think. No wonder they’re both like this. It’s no surprise now.
Her bright smile, sudden and sharp, caught both Damian and Nathan off guard. They think I’m just a harmless little kitten, don’t they? Yvette thought, smirking to herself.
Sienna, now standing her ground, spoke again, her voice strong and unwavering. “I’m sorry, but I don’t need your advice on marriage. Whether I marry a pig or a dog in the future, it won’t be Nathan from your family. As for this child, I thought about keeping it, but now? I see there’s no need. I’ll take care of it tomorrow. I’m done with your family, and I’m done with Nathan. If you keep pestering me, even with all your influence, I’m not afraid. I’ll fight you all the way. If it comes down to it, we both lose everything. No one will win.”
Damian, who had assumed Sienna was just another pliable woman, was stunned by her boldness. His shock was mirrored by Nathan, who could hardly believe what he was hearing. This was not the response he’d expected.
