Chapter_14
Whitney instinctively turned her head, her heart skipping a beat when she saw who it was. Roselyn stood there, her face still showing signs of anger, her expression cold and calculating. The animosity between them was palpable, and Whitney could sense that the confrontation she had been avoiding was finally about to unfold.
Roselyn smiled, but it was far from friendly. “Well, well, look who’s here. The so-called ‘victim’ of the Southern Elegance Club drama,” she sneered, her eyes glinting with malice. “You’re really not hiding from the spotlight, are you?”
Whitney remained composed, her gaze steady. “What do you want, Roselyn?”
Roselyn’s lips curled into a malicious grin. “Oh, just a little chat. You know, about your little game with my friends. But it seems you’ve been playing too long, Whitney. It’s time someone put you in your place.”
Whitney’s fingers tightened around her glass of water, her mind racing. She had known this moment would come, but she wasn’t about to give Roselyn the satisfaction of seeing her flustered.
“You’re really getting bold,” Whitney said coolly, taking a sip of her drink. “How’s your arm? I heard it was quite a sight at the hospital.”
Roselyn’s face reddened, but she quickly masked her embarrassment with a scowl. “You think you’ve won, don’t you? But don’t get too comfortable. I have plenty of people who can make sure your little ‘happy ending’ is short-lived.”
Whitney raised an eyebrow, intrigued despite herself. “What are you planning now, Roselyn? More drama? Or are you finally ready to confront the real issue here?”
Roselyn stepped closer, lowering her voice to a conspiratorial whisper. “Monica’s not going to let you get away with this, Whitney. She’ll do whatever it takes to get rid of you. You’re nothing but a thorn in her side, and I’ll make sure it stays that way.”
Whitney kept her gaze unwavering, not letting Roselyn’s words get under her skin. “You think I’m scared of her? Please. Let her try. I’m not going anywhere.”
Roselyn’s smile faltered for a moment, her frustration clear, but she quickly masked it. “We’ll see, won’t we?” she muttered, then turned to walk away, her heels clicking with authority.
As she disappeared down the corridor, Whitney let out a long, slow breath. This wasn’t over. It was just the beginning of a much larger game. She wasn’t sure exactly what Monica had up her sleeve, but Whitney knew she wouldn’t back down without a fight.
Taking another sip of her water, Whitney focused back on the task at hand. She had her eyes on a much bigger prize than Roselyn’s petty schemes. If she wanted to take Monica down, she would need to play the game on her terms—and she wasn’t about to let anyone, not even Roselyn, get in her way.
