Chapter_74
Whitney’s mind reeled as the interrogator’s words hit her like a ton of bricks. The accusations were beyond her wildest imaginations. She couldn’t believe what was being thrown at her. She was a designer, not a criminal mastermind. And yet, here she was, in an interrogation room, with the weight of a multi-million-dollar scandal hanging over her head.
Her first instinct was to deny it all—after all, she had no part in this alleged conspiracy. But the more she thought about it, the more she realized how well orchestrated Monica’s scheme was. Monica had always been cunning, but this… this was something different. The way she had manipulated everything, from the fake diamonds to the involvement of the Lutz family—it was masterful. It was clear now that Monica had set her up from the very beginning.
“No, it’s not true,” Whitney finally said, her voice cold but steady. “I’ve never been involved in any illegal activities. You’ve been misled. Monica is framing me.”
The interrogator raised an eyebrow, unimpressed. “So you’re telling me Carter, the supplier, made this all up?”
Whitney took a deep breath, trying to keep her composure. “I don’t know who Carter is, but I’ve never worked with him. Monica is the one who has been dealing with subpar materials. You need to investigate her.”
“Why should we believe you?” the interrogator asked, leaning forward. “We have all the evidence pointing to you.”
“Because you’ve been manipulated. I’ve been set up. Monica bought the subpar materials and pushed them through as high-end gems. She’s the one behind the kickbacks, the fake diamonds, and the scheme to ruin me.”
She knew it wasn’t enough to just make the accusation—she had to prove it. But how? She didn’t have the evidence Monica had so carefully planted.
A thought struck her then—Tiana. Tiana had information that could clear her name. She had data that Monica wouldn’t want anyone to see. She had to get Tiana here, fast.
The door to the interrogation room opened abruptly, and Simon walked in, his face grim. “Whitney, I’m doing everything I can to get you out of here. Just hang in there.”
Whitney’s heart sank. She could see the doubt in his eyes. He didn’t fully believe her yet, but she didn’t blame him. He hadn’t seen the entire picture. He didn’t know Monica like she did.
“Simon, you have to find Tiana. She has something at her place that can prove my innocence. Monica can’t cover everything up.”
Simon’s brow furrowed, but he nodded. “I’ll do what I can.”
As he left, Whitney was left to stew in her own thoughts, trying to make sense of the situation. She had been framed, but by whom? And for what purpose? What did Monica stand to gain from all this?
Meanwhile, across town, Monica was celebrating her victory. She had successfully thrown the blame onto Whitney, and now she could sit back and watch as Whitney’s life unraveled. But something about the whole thing felt off. Monica couldn’t shake the feeling that things were moving too fast, too smoothly. There had to be someone pulling the strings behind the scenes.
Elaine, perhaps?
Monica’s thoughts were interrupted by the sound of her phone ringing. She looked at the caller ID and frowned. It was Simon.
She didn’t answer, instead deciding to let the call go to voicemail. Simon was probably looking for her to clean up the mess, but she had no intention of getting involved any further. She had what she wanted.
But she couldn’t shake the nagging feeling that she had underestimated Whitney—and that might come back to haunt her.
As the hours ticked by, the walls of the interrogation room felt like they were closing in on Whitney. Would Tiana arrive in time? Would the truth come to light, or was she destined to fall victim to Monica’s ruthless plan?
Only time would tell.
